Investigating The Male Gaze in Advertising

This publication was created as an extension to my first publication "The Evolution of Visual Depictions of Women in Advertising". It closely explores the idea of the male gaze from what is it, to its impacts on society. Research is organized by form including, online and print publications, films and videos, and podcasts. The publication was meant to look at the idea of the male gaze holistically, with perspectives from not only men but also women and those in a part of the LGBTQIA+ community.
This idea came out of the question of "who is creating the depictions of women in advertising?" with the answer majority of the time being men. I felt this was strange, men created images of women to sell products to women. I wanted to explore how men projected their ideas of women upon women, in hand leading me toward the male gaze. This publication was meant to explore the multifaceted aspects of the male gaze through a variety of perspectives.
