The third and final addition to my gender research zines is Learning How To Knit. As I closely looked at both the visual evolution of women and understanding the male gaze, I began to become much more aware of the perceived and projected gender normalities within our society.
Tasked to teach ourselves a new skill, I decided to take up knitting. I chose this because it has strong maternal and feminine connections within society. I felt this would be an interesting process to teach myself a commonly seen 'feminine' skill from a more masculine perspective. Coming into this process, I was intrigued to see how and/or if gender had anything to do with learning the skill.
