“Handmade People” allows us to interact with and reflect upon the number of people affected by forced labour worldwide. The five handmade crochet circles represent the number of people affected by forced labour by region from September 2022. One single double crochet stitch represents 25,000 people who are affected by forced labour.
Take time to touch and feel the stitches within the circles, gently pull to expose the individual stitches. As you graze each stitch, reflect upon how many people they represent, the thousands of people who are forced to complete work daily. Stay for a long time or for a short time but remember that you have the option to leave, the stitches will remain, and the people will be forced to work, there is no choice for them.
